No Luck

I was playing a $1 turbo/rebuy poker tournament, but had a short bankroll and had vowed not to rebuy. Starting chip stack was 1,500. I had a horrible run of cards early, and at the end of the rebuy period (1/2 hour), I was down to 750 chips.

A week before, I had been in the same dilemma, but caught a run of good cards and ended up winning the poker tournament, so I was still optimistic. On the second hand after the end of the rebuy period, I caught JJ and naturally went all-in. As a distant short stack, I was called by two people. Fortunately for me, they both turned over A-Q offsuit, so they ate up each other's outs. However, they still had outs, including straight and flush draws.

Amazingly, I avoided both aces, both queens, and did not give up the straight or flush draws -- and I still lost the hand. Imagine my shock when the board came up 2-6-2-2-2 and I lost the hand to their quad 2's with A kickers.... No one at the table could help but laugh at my luck -- including myself.
